When members begin losing weight, their motivators and commitments are usually strong, because they have a strong sense of how they no longer want to be.
As time goes on however, many drop out of Weight Watchers before they reach their goal weight. Others regain their weight after becoming Lifetime Members.
When asked why? They often say, "I lost my motivation."
When referring to "motivation", members are speaking of whatever inspires them to do the things necessary to reach their weight goal and stay there.
While "Last Straw Incidents" are important to get started or sustaining motivation, you need to focus on the good feelings you'll get when you achieve what you do want, which inspires you to take the necessary steps to achieve it.
This the "Motivating Strategy" in Tools For Living.
This week I'll show you that your motivators and commitment level can change over time.
I'll help you discover what will motivate you now and how to use the motivating strategy tool to keep you moving towards what you want.

Week 20 - Preview - Managing Memorial Day Food and Fun
This week will be about why we need to feel confident in our abilities to navigate these holiday events as you are losing your weight.
You will learn to develop skills that will help you manage the holidays and your weight for long term.
What foods might you see at these summer events?
How might they affect your weight loss?
Think about the foods that will be a challenge to your weight loss effort and in the meeting we'll find ways to lighten them up and how to have the food/flavor with a less point value.
I will highlight the Hit The Spot Cookbook this week as well. This is a brand new cookbook to our meeting center.

Following up on last week....
Who started a new exercise to positively affect your metabolism?
What was it?
What needs to happen for you to continue this new exercise?
The Spring Fever Challenge is coming to a close soon, but just because this is ending doesn't mean it's over. You can create new challenges for yourself.
Remember, there are still plenty of local activities to get involved in this summer to expand your repertoire and affect your metabolism.
For those of you participating in the Spring Fever Challenge, I will need to have your challenge sheets in on June 1st and June 2nd.
The prize drawings are June 8th and June 9th.

What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the number of calories the body burns at rest, by digesting and absorbing food, and during physical activity.
Yes, no matter how old you are, you can change up your metabolism.
How do we do that??? We increase our physical activity - especially strength and resistance training. Eat a well balanced diet and continue to intensify your exercise routine; whether extending the length time or the intensity of the workout. Check out your week 2 and week 9 books, for some great ideas on how to boost your time and intensity to burn more calories.
Remember, the body is not selective when you lose your weight. You need to exercise to build lean muscle; that is the active tissue that burns calories.
How is the training going on the Walk It Challenge? Who is taking advantage of that? Have you signed up for the free training? Have you participated or researched local options?

Week 18 - Roundup - Focusing on the positives
As you can see, this blog post is coming to you on a Thursday, not a Sunday. It's been a heck of a week. I could have thrown my hands up in the air and said, "Forget it. They won't be worried about this week's news...", but my inner self said, "No, Paula, you need to do this. Get this done. It not only helps the members, but it helps you - stay on track, stay in focus with the meeting topics and concerns of the members."
That is a perfect example of FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVES.
When you hit a "wall" remember it's not real. Push through it and move on to the sunshine.
Turn those negatives into positives.
