Why it's so important to put yourself first.......

Those who were at the meeting this past week heard me tell about the Dr. Oz show I saw that made me think about the topic. He had a doc on who studies centagerarians(those people who make it to 100 yrs old +. Basically it comes down to putting yourself first, taking care of number one. Remember to go to Dr. Oz.com and take the 15 question quiz. Here are the quick calculations for finding out if you can be 100+ too.
Start with 89 (female age). Add 5 yrs if you have a positive attitude. Add another 5 if you have family members who have reached 90. You can't add any years if you exercise daily but if you don't then you take 5 away. Next if you do brain challenging activities/ hobbies add 5 yrs.
If you eat nutritously and maintain a healthy weight(okay we are working at it) you don't add years but you take away 5 if you don't maintain a healthy weight. Lastly, if you have smoked 1 "cig" you take away 15 years. If you have quit and its been 15 years you break even.
Now get out there and find time for YOU !!!!!!!!!

How do I figure portions when I eat out?

We talk about this a lot as we all enjoy eating out. This is how I do it.
One of my favorite places to eat is Mi Mexico. I love to order #28. This is a chicken enchilada with a tomatillo sauce. The two enchiladas come with whole pinto bean and Spanish rice. When you search on e tools for enchiladas you will find the meal for 9 pts. I had 1/2 of this meal and when you divide the meal it is 5 pts. This is how I estimated my half to take home.

Flexible Restraint - oh yeah

That is what the Point Plus program is all about. Exercising moderate control over eating for lasting wt loss and a eating plan that incorporates enough structure to limit food intake and encourage wt loss and discourage the feelings of deprivation.
Dietary restraint which leads to the on again/ off again behavior of some members who monitor precisely, tally calories, and read labels talking a lot about their diet is one behavior that is not successful.
Dietary disinhibition describes the other unsuccessful behavior. This is a person that lacks control over eating. They eat rapidly, frequently ............ugh!

over eat and perceive greater hunger. No big surprise this is associated with wt gain and obesity.
Think about what you will an to include in your week that will eliminate the feeling of deprivation. Figure the points and plan to enjoy your choice knowing your are totally on program.

Planning allows you to have the comfort foods you want in your real life.

Week 3 of a New You

What resolutions have you said out loud? Do you have an end date? What is your reward?
To update you I have gone through 12 boxes, so I'm ahead of my resolution. Feeling really good about this, very motivated.
I am collecting items for the garage sale in May.
I am also training for a 15k. My daughter and I are doing it together. We are on our third week and we are going strong.
The dogs are walking with us as we train. We won't be taking them for the longer distances but they enjoy the 1-5 mile distances.
Let me know how your resolutions are working for you.

The merits of Greek yogurt

Love love love this yogurt. One of my members turned me on to this. It's so creamy, has 14-16 grams of protein depending on the flavor.
