Week 9 of the 10 week 2010 challenge

Beating Food Boredom

This week with all the great ideas about jazzing up your food choices, I wanted to include the recipe I found on e tools for the Senegalese Peanut Soup. This is a keeper in my books. The soup flavors are very similar to the soup African Peanut Soup made famous at the Colophon in Fairhaven but this WW recipe is only 4 points per serving.

Here is the recipe:

6 Servings - 1 1/2 Cups per serving - 4 points

Ingredients

2 Medium Onions, coarsley chopped
1/2 lbs. Sweet Potatoes, peeled and coarsley chopped
2 Medium Carrots, coarsley chopped
2 Medium Cloves of Garlic, coarsley chopped
2 T Fresh Ginger Root - peeled and coarsley chopped
1 t Ground Clove
1/2 t Salt
1 t Cayenne Pepper
4 C Low Sodium Veggie Broth
6 T Peanut Butter (Adam's Natural Chunky)
8 - 9 C Fresh Baby Spinach
2 T Slap Yo' Mama or hot sauce (Optional)

Directions:

1. In a soup pot, saute 2 T veggie broth with onions until onions are softened. About 3 minutes.
2. Add sweet potatoes, carrots, garlic, ginger, cloves, salt and cayenne. Saute for 2 minutes.
3. Add the rest of the veggie broth, cover the pot and simmer for

25 - 30 minutes until potatoes are tender.
4. Put the stove top ingredients into a blender or vita-mix or use an immersion blender to puree.
5. Add 3 T of peanut butter to the ingredients and puree.
6. Put pureed batches back into pan and add the other 3 T of peanut butter and the spinach. Cook on low simmer and stir until spinach is wilted.
7. Add Slap Yo' Mama or hot sauce to taste.

Enjoy

Here are the noodles/ pasta we talked about in the meetings. They are o pts per package. Thank you Traci for the food find. Let me know if you have something to contribute.

Activity can also get boring. Here is a great way to exercise and burn 600 calories/ hour. Who says we have to grow up. Check out Jamie's website: Hooping Allure for more info.

Week 4 of the 10 week Challenge--Emotional Hunger vs Physical Hunger

How can you tell if your hunger is from the neck up or the neck down.
Real Hunger grows gradually. You will eat anything. You can wait. You stop when you feel full. You feel good after eating. You feel energized.
Emotional Hunger hits suddenly. You crave a specific food (usually high in fat). You need to be satisfied instantly. No amount of food fills you. You feel guilty after eating. You feel heavier.
This weeks challenge is to make a list of 10 things you can do instead of eating when emotional eating strikes. Come with a list to share at next weeks meeting.

See you then!

It runs in the family---Great way to get the extra 10 min.

Here is the new logo of my son's dog walking service in New York City.
Now that's a way to get your activity for the day. The better his business the more exercise he gets.
There was lots of success with adding the extra 10 min. and lots of great weigh losses.

Week 2 Satisfaction Challenge

Week 2 challenge is to choose 10 meals that you focus completely on filling foods. I look forward to seeing what you found out and how it affected your satisfaction levels and your wt. loss this week.
I also focused on filling foods and changed up some of my breakfast choices. One recipe was the Morning Glory muffins in this months WW magazine. They were a member favorite that had had makeover so their point value went from 5 to 2 pts. They were delicious and had both regular flour and whole wheat plus carrots and crushed pineapple. Definately filling with my nonfat yogurt and coffee.
See you all this week with your ideas and results. Week 3 challenge will activity. We all have our personal challenges with that. Lets see how we can look at this differently and accomplish our goal.

Summation of the 1 st week Challenge.

10 Things you found out about food / self when you track.

Getting Ready for todays meeting Week of 1/10-16

Please come to the meeting with what you discovered about yourself and your food choices this past week as you tracked.

This will be the first week of the 10 week challenge.

As you have seen I posted the Lasagne slow cook recipe for those who missed it. I will try to keep a few copies of past weeklys for those who missed. If you want your own copy just call the 1-800-651-6000 number and they will send you a copy.

I also made the slow cooker Italian vegetable soup in the weekly. It was fabulous as written. If you wanted to add protein like beans or chicken or make it heartier like pasta just track how much you add and then divide by 8 which is the number of servings.

See you at the meeting this week.
